Rick Okimaw Richard Okimaw is a mechanical engineer, lawyer and a registered Patent and Trade-mark Agent who practices primarily in the area of intellectual property law. Richard completed his mechanical engineering degree at UBC and his law degree at the University of Toronto. Prior to studying law, Rick worked as a mechanical engineer for several years in the fields of HVAC, manufacturing, construction and noise suppression of industrial processes. Prior to relocating to Kelowna he practiced in Vancouver with Smart & Biggar.   

Richard has a broad range of experience in intellectual property law that includes filing national and international patent and trade-mark applications as well as handling licensing and intellectual property disputes. Rick has successfully represented clients in fields ranging from petroleum exploration to sports equipment to electronic gaming machines.

Richard is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, and is a Director of the Okanagan Science and Technology Council.

Kristen Okimaw provides legal services in the area of wills, estate planning, probate and estate administration, trusts and charity law. Kristen was raised in Kelowna and obtained her law degree from UBC in 1999. She was admitted to the Alberta bar in 2000, the Ontario bar in 2002, and the BC bar in 2005. Kristen has worked at both large full service firms in Calgary and Vancouver and a boutique litigation firm in Toronto. She has appeared at the Supreme Court of British Columbia, as well as Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench. She is returning to Kelowna with extensive experience in a wide variety of practice areas.

Alison Oxtoby

Alison Oxtoby provides legal services in the area of corporate and commercial transactions and tax-driven reorganizations.

Alison obtained her law degree from the University of Victoria in 1996 and was admitted to the BC bar in 1997. She has completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Course, Parts I, II and III. She was a partner and worked for 12 years with a large full-service firm in Vancouver.

Alison has worked for public and private companies in a variety of sectors, including forestry, mining and transportation and public utilities and has acted for various family-owned enterprises.

Alison was a co-editor and contributing author of the Annotated British Columbia Business Corporation Act, published by Canada Law Book. She has also authored and presented papers to the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC and has lectured at both the University of Victoria and University of British Columbia law schools.
