Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments CEO Mark Policinski has responded to a video announcement by Governors Andy Beshear and Mike DeWine released Wednesday morning showing off the design plans for the Brent Spence Bridge’s companion bridge.
Policinski, a proponent for a new bridge since his arrival to OKI in 2003, said its design plans are more than a “feat of engineering—they’re a bold declaration of where we’re headed as a region. This forward-thinking structure will not only ease congestion and improve safety, but it will also redefine how infrastructure connects people, economies and communities on both sides of the river. It’s a landmark that reflects the Tri-State’s leadership in innovation and collaboration, and it sets a new national standard for what modern infrastructure can and should be.”
Policinski added, “The companion bridge and corridor improvements will not only enhance freight movement and daily commutes, but also expand access to jobs, transit and green spaces. This is more than a bridge — it’s a bold step toward a more connected, resilient, and prosperous region for all our citizens.”
He said, “OKI especially commends and congratulates Governors DeWine and Beshear on their successful joint efforts to procure essential funding for this much-needed transportation project. We also recognize the collective brilliant expertise and decades of dedication of Ohio’s Department of Transportation and Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet. OKI and this region could not have better qualified shepherds for this monumental project.”
Policinski concluded, “OKI and the region are forever grateful to Senators Rob Portman and Mitch McConnell for their steadfast leadership and instrumental efforts in advancing the Brent Spence Bridge project as a national priority in Washington, D.C.”
